And we have history to thank for the steel buildings we are now enjoying. Some steel buildings that were constructed centuries ago are on the list of the world’s most famous steel buildings today. They are still standing tall and proud, merely showing us that steel is indeed strong and durable.

Prefab Steel Building: World’s Famous Steel Structures

Suppose you want to gain inspiration for the next building project you have. In that case, the perfect ones to get you started on prefab steel construction are the famous steel buildings all over the world. Check out the list below.

  1. The Brooklyn Bridge. Quite well-known for being the first suspension bridge constructed using steel wires, the Brooklyn Bridge was completed in more than 14 years. In the process, 600 workers were needed to finish it in 1883. Now, it is being used by more than 100,000 vehicles every day.
  2. Sydney Harbour Bridge. Built-in 1924, the Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Australia. It is considered the largest steel arch building in the world, consisting of 53,000 tons of steel.
  3. The Empire State Building. In 1931, the tallest building’s record was broken when The Empire State Building was constructed. It was built with 730 tons of steel and took 13 months to be completed.
  4. Burj Khalifa. Currently holding the record for the world’s tallest building, among other world records, the Burj Khalifa stands at 2, 716.5 feet tall, and has 160 stories. It was built with 31,400 tons of steel, reinforced with concrete.
  5. The Taipei 101 Tower. As the world’s tallest building for 6 years (from 2004 to 2010), before the Burj Khalifa broke its record, the Taipei 101 tower stands at 1,667 feet high. It was constructed with giant steel columns and designed to be safe from earthquakes as it is built to bend with applied pressure.
  6. Beijing National Stadium. Also known as the “Bird’s Nest” is the most massive all-steel structure in the world. It is made with 42,000 tons of steel beams criss crossed together, forming the appearance of a nest.

While some of these structures took too long to be completed, today’s construction process is far quicker than its counterpart decades ago.

More importantly, the steel structures of yesteryears are a testament to the strength, durability, and the many advantages that this building material offers us.
